Evaluation Question 4

the new media technologies and how we used them

The technologies that we used for each stage of our coursework varies for what was needed for specific roles. For the research we used a digital camera to record the public for vox pops and used surveys on surveymonkey, this is to see what type of music the public like and what they like to see in music videos, we used a microphone to enhance the voice recording so their voices could be heard much more clearer. For the actual construction of the video we used a full HD camera to record each scene to enable facial emotions clear and sharp. A tripod was also used to keep the shots steady and easy to view. The picture to the right is the exact model of tripod that we had used for all of our filming other than the monopod circling our actors in the music video.

We also used a device known as a monopod, this is like a miniature version steadicam except its cheaper and lot easier to handle. We used this to circle round the actors as they dance highlighting their emotions with close-up shots. To edit the video we used an imac along with a program called final cut express to make the split screen effect, and make the cross dissolves from one shot to the other keeping it slow and creating the romantic atmosphere needed for the song.

For our evaluation we used two different websites to help us answer the questions. The first one we used was called prezi.com and is useful in making an attractive and quite professional powerpoint that moves in crazy ways to keep people pulled to the screen. It is very simple to use and is user friendly.
The other we used was called slideshare.com which is basically an online version of powerpoint.

For creating our advertisement we didn't want use photoshop because we weren't skilled enough to use it, so we had used an online photo editor called picmonkey.com. It was very easy to get used to and made it much more easier to use to edit our photo for our advertisement.
For our digipak we had used photoshop and was quite difficult to use as the layout was complex so we had used the very basic tools to make our digipak and import our photos that we had edited in picmonkey to create what the digipak is now.

Location Visit Sheet

Programme Title: My two left feet
Writer: Chris Thomson
Producers: Kayne Mcmillan and Chris Thomson
Director: Kayne Mcmillan
Date:
15th Jan

Rough Sketch/Explanation of location and key points to note
We used the hall because it has a stage in there and it was to look like a performance and the band room was to look like I was practicing signing and playing the song.

Access to location via:
We used our main hall which was open but had to ask for permission to use the band room as it has expensive equipment in there.

Name and number of location contact:
Robert Clack School RM8 1JU

Health and Safety Issues to note:
The stairs at the main hall are quite steep o we could slip over
In the band room wires were left all over the floor so it was quite a hazard so we cleaned up before we filmed
Potential Filming Problems:

There was a moment when the camera kept going in an out of focus so we couldn’t film until it had focused wasting time.

Contingency Plan

Contingency Plan
Name: Chris Thomson and Kayne Mcmillan

Production: Music video

Potential problems and how to overcome these problems:
There was a problem with trying to get people to get to film because of their time schedules so we had to fit our shooting around them a film when we could when they were free.

We had to get a guitar for our prop but the room had been locked and could not get in so we had to hunt around for a teacher to open the door, which wasted valuable time for recording. To overcome this we managed to record another day for a whole lesson which gave us more time to record.

Progress

We decided not to record me just singing into a mic as we thought what we have is good enough for the video and are now in the process of editing the video and writing out our treatment.

Through out the video there is only two people and the main prop is the guitar so it keeps things simple instead of trying to get more people in then them saying that they cant do the video.

Filming update !!

We recorded some filming in our school band room because it was the closest we could get to a studio and we are happy with what we shot in there. Now we have had another idea instead of filming in just one location like our original idea we are deciding to record in different locations as it will make the video just a bit more interesting with different locations instead of the idle location.

We have also come up with the idea of just me singing through a microphone as it would seem to give a live feel to the video instead of singing and playing the guitar.

Resources for our Video

For our video we wanted to set it on a stage mainly so the idea was i would be playing and singing and then Katie would walk round and see me and eventually lead into us dancing at the end of the video. So we had used our school hall stage for this, me and Kayne also thought that there should be a couple of shots of just me singing and playing guitar so we shot inside or schools band room as it was the closest place we could get to a studio without being disturbed. We got the shots needed for me singing and playing guitar, and now are think of whether we should just shoot with me just singing.

We used only a props through out the duration of filming like the acoustic guitar is the key prop through out the video ( this is why we are discussing me just singing without the guitar)
If we were to shot me just sining we would also need a microphone.

In the case of actors there is just me and Katie as we are the only ones that will feature in the video.

Digipak- What is it ?

A digipak is in simple words a CD case but with more to it making it in a way a special edition to the regular CD.
The digipak normally includes the CD and the booklet but some others include a special disc which includes bonus material like a DVD of the band/artist making the music, their promo video for the album for example Bullet for my Valentine's Scream Aim Fire Video was included with the Scream Aim Fire digipak.

Also with digipak's they include unreleased songs that were not included with final release of the album,  for example again referring to the Scream Aim Fire album Ashes of the Innocent was not released on the final album but was released on the digipak.

Filming Update

We have finished our filming with Katie now we feel we need to get some shots with just me singing and playing guitar but after we finished with that we will be ready for editing.
